Are you concerned that your repayment from HMRC is taking a long time? You may have been sent an HMRC “SURF” letter.
Despite appearances, HMRC’s SURF1 and SURF2 letters from HMRC sent to taxpayers who are due a refund to check the genuineness of the refund claim. The letter requests personal information from the taxpayer and threatens to removethe taxpayer from the self assessment regime if they don’t provide the information required.
These letters come from an address that is not a recognised address for any office of HMRC and asks for personal details which is something HMRC say they’ll never ask you for. These letters look a lot like they are a scam.
We would be happy to help if you are a recipeint of one of these HMRC SURF letters. Call us to arrange a consultation.
